Genetic transformation of colony type in Xanthomonas phaseoli.

چکیده
The first demonstration of transformation (Griffith, 1928) was concerned with type-specific capsular polysaccharides of pneumococci. Such transformations of capsular types usually are accompanied by a change in colony type since most investigators have studied transformation of R cells which produce little or no capsular material. Coiacomitant transformation of capsular and colony type has been reviewed by Austrian (1952) who also reported that others observed transformation of capsular type without accompanying transformation of colony type. Concomitant transformations are frequent, as are transformations of colony type with transformations of capsular type. However, transformations of capsular type without transformations of colony type are rare. Four colonial variants of Xanthomonas phaseoli which produce different quantities of the same capsular polysaccharide have been described. The amount of polysaccharide produced determines the colony type (Corey and Starr, 1957). This paper presents evidence that these colony types can be transformed.

Genome sequencing reveals a new lineage associated with lablab bean and genetic exchange between Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. phaseoli and Xanthomonas fuscans subsp. fuscans
Common bacterial blight is a devastating seed-borne disease of common beans that also occurs on other legume species including lablab and Lima beans. We sequenced and analyzed the genomes of 26 strains of Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. phaseoli and X. fuscans subsp. fuscans, the causative agents of this disease, collected over four decades and six continents. This revealed considerable genetic vari...

Genetic Diversity and Pathogenic Variation of Common Blight Bacteria (Xanthomonas campestris pv. phaseoli and X. campestris pv. phaseoli var. fuscans) Suggests Pathogen Coevolution with the Common Bean.
ABSTRACT Common bacterial blight (CBB), caused by Xanthomonas campestris pv. phaseoli and X. campestris pv. phaseoli var. fuscans, is one of the most important diseases of common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) in East Africa and other bean-growing regions. Xanthomonad-like bacteria associated with CBB in Malawi and Tanzania, East Africa, and in Wisconsin, U.S., were characterized based on brown pigm...
متن کاملAflp Analysis of Xanthomonas Axonopodis and X. Arboricola Strains Used In Xanthan Production Studies Reveal High Levels Of Polymorphism
Amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) was used to analyze the genetic diversity of 14 strains of Xanthomonas arboricola pv. pruni and seven strains of X. axonopodis pv. phaseoli, which are used in xanthan production studies. Relationships identified by the AFLP profiles were assessed for xanthan production capacity, geographical location and host plant. Strains were isolated from 10 dif...

To understand the role of relative humidity rate, host genotype, inoculation method and growth stage in epidemiology of bean common blight, two greenhouse experiments were carried out monitoring epiphytic population size of Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. phaseoli (Xap) and disease severity. The result showed significant differences among genotypes, inoculation methods and growth stages for epiphyti...
